Brief curriculum review: Javier holds a PhD from the Department of Sociology IV (Research Methodology and Communication Theory) of the Complutense University of Madrid (2011). Its work focuses on the development and application of quantitative methods within the field of social sciences and public health. During his postdoctoral period he has worked as a professor/researcher in several Spanish universities (Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universidad de Sevilla, Universidad Loyola Andalucía), during which time he has carried out several research stays in international centres (Iowa State University, University of Ljubljana, University of Surrey, Harvard University, the University of Sydney). In recent years, he has worked as a Senior Research Associate at University College London until his incorporation at the University of Cadiz. His main lines of research focus on: (1) the social determinants of health; (2) the evaluation of health services and systems; and (3) the development of decision support tools for the formulation of social and health policies. His work has been published in journals such as Social Science & Medicine, the International Journal of Public Health, PLoS ONE, Applied Psychology: Health and Well-Being, BMC Public Health, BMC Health Service Research, and Social Science Computer Review, among others. He also has extensive teaching experience teaching research methodology, statistics, data analysis, multivariate analysis, and sociology.
Oscar Bomati Miguel

Brief curriculum review: Oscar Bomati Miguel holds a degree in Geological Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid (1997) and a PhD in Chemistry from the Autonomous University of Madrid (2004). Since its inception in 1999, Dr. O. Bomati Miguel’s scientific career has been focused on research into the synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials with potential applications in medicine, primarily as contrast agents for the diagnosis of tumors by medical imaging techniques and the treatment of tumors by hyperthermia. During his scientific career, Dr. O. Bomati Miguel has worked in several Spanish scientific institutions (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, Universidad de Zaragoza and Universidad Autónoma de Madrid) and international research centers of recognized prestige (ENEA-Frascati in Italy, CEA-Saclay in France, University of California at Davis and State University of New York at Buffalo in USA, University of Jena in Germany and University of Vienna in Austria); having participated in 19 regional, national and international research projects in the area of nanoscience and nanomedicine. As a result of this research, Dr. O.Bomati Miguel has published 48 articles in scientific journals, which have received more than 1100 citations, in journals such as Chemistry of Materials, Advanced Materials, Biomaterials or Small, among others, and has participated in 45 scientific conferences. Dr. O. Bomati Miguel is currently leading a research project aimed at the use of laser technology in the manufacture of multimodal nanoparticles for use as contrast agents in the diagnosis of breast cancer using magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, mammography and computed tomography. His main lines of research are: 1) Manufacturing processes of laser-induced nanomaterials (laser ablation and laser pyrolysis); 2) Laser processing of materials; 3) Characterization of nanomaterials by electron microscopy; 4) Toxicity of nanomaterials, and 4) Applications of nanomaterials in medicine and environmental conservation. In addition to his scientific activity, Dr. O. Bomati Miguel has carried out an intense teaching activity during the last seven years, teaching subjects in physics and chemistry and master courses in nanoscience and nanotechnology.
Juan José Delgado Jaén

Brief curriculum review: Juan José received his doctorate from the University of Cadiz in 2003 and later spent 39 months at the Fritz-Haber Institute of the Max-Planck Society. In April 2007, he rejoined the UCA and has been a Ramón y Cajal researcher at this institution since 2013. His research work has focused on the design of heterogeneous catalysts with applications in environmental protection and clean and sustainable energy production. He co-authored more than 90 articles in journals such as Science, JACS, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, PNAS, Nature Materials and Journal of Catalysis. Currently, its H index is 27 and its publications have more than 1900 citations.
Bernabé Dorronsoro Díaz

Brief curriculum review: Bernabé obtained his degree in Computer Science Engineering from the University of Malaga in 2002 and after that his doctoral thesis focused on the use of artificial intelligence techniques to solve complex optimization problems. After his doctorate in 2007, he received the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize 2006/2007, awarded by the E.T.S.I. Computer science at the University of Malaga. She completed a five-year post-doc at the University of Luxembourg and in 2012 she obtained a two-year contract at the University of Lille 1 (France) with a Marie-Curie research contract. He joined the University of Cadiz in 2015. He has published two monographic books, one edited book, 16 book chapters and 40 publications in international journals.
Javier González Rosa

Brief curriculum review: Javier holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Seville. In 2008, thanks to a Marie Curie IEF postdoctoral fellowship, he was researching at the San Raffaele-Institute of Experimental Neurology in Milan. In 2012, he joined the Centre for Biomedical Technology at the Polytechnic University of Madrid as a senior researcher at Marie Curie, and was also a visiting researcher at the Institute of Neurology-UCL in London. Since 2017 he has been a Ramón y Cajal researcher at the University of Cadiz. His research focuses mainly on the use of different brain mapping techniques (EEG, fMRI) and non-invasive brain stimulation (TMS, tSMS) and invasive brain stimulation (DBS), in order to explore the neural bases of human cognition, with a special interest in the evaluation of cognitive impairment in neurological and psychiatric patients.

Brief curriculum review: Miriam graduated in Marine Sciences from the UCA in 1997 and began her doctoral studies in 1998 at ICMAN, in Puerto Real. After his thesis defense in 2003, he started a post doctoral contract at the Instituto de Investigación de Pesca y el Mar (IPIMAR) in Lisbon (Portugal), funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). In 2007, he completed a second post-doctoral contract at the Institute of Aquaculture in Stirling, Scotland, funded by the European Union through a Marie Curie Fellowship. In 2009, he returned to ICMAN through a post-doctoral contract from CSIC (JaeDoc) and a Marie Curie Reintegration Fellowship. From 2011 to 2013 he coordinated the Marie Curie IRSES (International Research Staff Exchange Scheme) action. She is currently a Ramón y Cajal researcher at the Andalusian Centre for Marine Sciences and Technologies (CACYTMAR) of the University of Cadiz. His research interests are the assessment of the molecular and cellular effects of emerging and existing contaminants for the assessment of their environmental risk based on mechanisms of action, bioinformatics and integration of high-performance or ohmic data for data mining.

Brief curriculum review: A graduate in Chemistry from the UCA (2002), Juan Carlos began his research career as a student collaborator in Inorganic Chemistry. In 2003, as an FPI fellow, he began his doctoral thesis focused on the characterization by electron microscopy of nanomaterials for catalysis, defended in (2007) and awarded the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize. His postdoctoral stage was spent at the University of Cambridge (GB) exploring the three-dimensional characterization of nanomaterials by electronic tomography. In 2010, he returned to the UCA after being proposed for a position as researcher Juan de la Cierva helping to promote the UCA as an international reference in electronic tomography. In 2013, he was selected as a Ramón y Cajal researcher and his lines of research focus on Materials Science and innovation in the nanoscale characterisation of new materials with special emphasis on nanotechnologies.
David Jiménez Pavón

Brief curriculum review: David finished his studies in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences in 2005 at the University of Granada, obtaining the extraordinary prize of Bachelor’s degree from the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport and linking up with the research field thanks to the EFFECTS-262 research group of the University. He then developed the different phases considered by the Ministry of Science and Innovation as part of the research career to become an independent researcher, his line of research being based on the epidemiology of health promotion and prevention of cardio-metabolic diseases through physical activity and exercise. In the first place, he was awarded the highly competitive national scholarship for University Teacher Training (FPU, MEC) at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and over the next four years he developed and completed his Master’s Degree in Human Nutrition with a European mention and defended his doctoral thesis in the Department of Physiology (Faculty of Medicine, University of Granada), which won the extraordinary prize for his doctoral thesis at the University’s Doctoral School. His thesis was based on the context of a European project (FP6; HELENA Project). He carried out several research stays at the University of Glasgow (United Kingdom) and the Karolinska Institute (Sweden), as well as short research visits to centres such as the MRC Epidemiology Unit of the University of Cambridge or the UCL of London (United Kingdom), the School of Public Health of the University of South Carolina (USA) and the John Moores University of Liverpool (United Kingdom). In 2011, he started the postdoctoral contract “Juan de la Cierva (years) in the prestigious international research group GENUD. His postdoctoral stay allowed him to work actively as a researcher in the development of various European projects (FP6 and FP7) as well as to collaborate in international projects with the United States and to start as a PI of a regional project. In 2014, he was awarded the prestigious contract of the Ramón y Cajal Programme in the area of Clinical Medicine and Epidemiology, which he has been developing since then at the University of Cadiz. Currently, he is the PI of a national project (RETOS; I+D+I) and his research interests are focused on “Promoting health through physical activity, exercise and nutrition” with specific projects focused on the prevention and treatment of obesity and Alzheimer’s disease. In addition, he is a member of different scientific committees of experts on physical activity and health and participates as a reviewer/assessor in several scientific impact journals and as an evaluator of public agencies such as the National Agency for Evaluation and Foresight (ANEP).
Marta I. Sánchez

Brief curriculum review: Marta has a degree in Biology (University of Seville) and a PhD in Ecology (National Thesis Award, SEO/BirdLife). His main research interest is to understand the individual and combined effect of different drivers of global change (biological invasions, pollution and climate change), as well as their interaction with biotic factors, at different levels of biological organization. He is interested in understanding how responses in organisms translate into ecosystem-level processes and proximal mechanisms. He did his doctoral thesis at the Doñana Biological Station (EBD-CSIC) and during his 4 years of postdoc he worked at IRD and CEFE (CNRS) in Montpellier (France). He returned to Spain (EBD-CSIC) with a Juan de la Cierva contract and after two maternal deaths (Samuel and Teo) he obtained a Ramón y Cajal contract, applying novel approaches to his research such as the Parasitoproteomics or the Ecology of the Resurrection. His career has been fully and uninterruptedly funded in competitive calls (10 grants or research contracts), working in 4 international centers and established a multidisciplinary collaboration with more than 70 scientists from 30 institutions and 16 countries. As Ramón y Cajal he has directed 8 projects (2 National Plans, 1 Excellence of the Junta de Andalucía, 1 bilateral PICS of international cooperation, 1 BBVA and 3 Microprojects of the Severo Ochoa Programme), 4 doctoral theses, 10 Master theses, and more than 15 students from different European programmes. He has published more than 50 articles (more than 80% in Q1), in journals such as Ecology Letters, Plos Pathogens and Global Change Biology among others. She is editor of the Open Access journal PeerJ and evaluator for the National Agency for Evaluation and Foresight (ANEP) and the State Agency for Research (AEI) among others. Incorporated as a PCD in the UCA in December 2017 within the 15% rate.
